More Fun With Ferrania P33

April 25, 2026 by JR Smith

My last few rolls of Film Ferrania P33 are a bit past their expiration dates. Not that it really matters all that much with cold-stored medium speed black and white film, but it was a good enough reason to go on a photo walk and click off a few shots around the house. I grabbed my Nikkormat FTn with my favorite nifty fifty Nikkor prime and wandered around downtown.

The day turned cold and damp, so I returned home and swapped out the 50 for my 55mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor —- always a great “rainy day, amuse myself by taking pictures of my gear lens.”

At certain speeds, I am starting to see some shutter capping on this FTn. I am pretty certain that this camera was hardly or even never used by anyone before I got it. It came in its original box with all of the paperwork and plastic shutter guard still inside. Mechanical cameras need to be exercised regularly and it didn't do this Nikkormat any good sitting idle in its box for all those years. I’ll send it off for a CLA soon.

I don’t see Ferrania P33 in stock anywhere as I write this which is a pity. I really like P33 and have made some satisfying pictures with it. I hope it comes back.
